A resident of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, was on Monday morning arraigned at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court charged with the rape of a 17-year-old girl.
Indrajeet Mootilall appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool and denied that he carried out the act. The charge brought against him stated that he executed the act on November 22, 2016 in a village located in the West Demerara district.
The accused who had been on the run since the allegation was made against him was apprehended by ranks on Friday.
The Virtual Complainant (VC) and the rape accused were known to each other prior to the incident.
The accused is vehemently denying that he raped the VC, and continues to claim that he had consensual sexual relations with her.
He is also accusing the VC’s grandparents of instigating her to make such a claim to the court. Mootilall was granted G$100,000 bail and was expected to make his next appearance on September 29, 2017.
